Uniting this wiki with Fandom's Pathfinder: Kingmaker community
For those who have not yet heard: Last year, Gamepedia and Fandom joined forces and are now two platforms on the same network. Later this year, we'll even become one unified platform. The teams at both Gamepedia and Fandom want to encourage our communities to work together now instead of splitting their efforts and competing with each other for readers and new editors.
I'd like to know how all of you here feel about uniting with Fandom's Pathfinder: Kingmaker community. That would mean we archive one wiki - lock it from editing but keep the pages accessible to readers - and put a banner up that directs visitors towards the other, active wiki. Anyone who used to edit the now-archived wiki would be able to contribute to the active wiki, and any content on one side that's missing on the other can be moved over with edit histories intact. Note: No merger will take place if both communities don't agree to it.
The advantages of becoming one community working together are clear: By working together, all fans of Pathfinder Kingmaker could build a resource on the game more effectively, keep it up-to-date more easily, and players would no longer be confused as to which site they should turn to for information.
There are two questions
- Are you interested in merging with your partner community on Fandom?
- If so, where should the future active wiki live?
Both wikis have significant amounts of content. The Fandom wiki receives about 458,000 pageviews per month. Here on Gamepedia, it's about 355,000 per month. That would make Fandom the more likely choice, but what really matters is where editors want to edit. Keep in mind that later this year, both the Gamepedia and the Fandom wiki will move onto the same platform and then have a very similar if not the same layout, tool set and staff support. Could you see yourself contributing to the Fandom wiki? Would you love to see the two communities united, but only if it's here on Gamepedia? Would you prefer to keep the two communities separate entirely? Please speak up!

- I am opposed to a merger.
- Admittedly I'm new to the wiki, but I've contributed heavily to the Pillars of Eternity and Witcher wikis, and would like to do the same here. But not if you kill this one off (let's be honest), as heavily indicated here (and outright stated on Wikia) and continue with the Wikia one. I have no interest in editing there. Am also concerned about what options we will have once UCP is done, but that's a separate issue. Pangaearocks (talk) 22:11, 15 April 2020 (UTC)
- Duly noted. However, since you only started contributing to this wiki after the merger was brought up, you can't represent its community. Of the previous editors, none have spoken up, and the notice has been up for more than a month, which indicates others either aren't invested in keeping the wiki open here, or are okay with continuing to build this resource over at Fandom. I understand that you wouldn't edit on Fandom after the wiki here is archived, and that's fair. The edits you've made here won't be lost, and could be transferred to Fandom, where it makes sense.

- Are you serious? "Both communities need to agree." They don't. I've done tons of work lately on this wiki, and even more offline to prepare the ground for more content edits. And the thanks for that is "we don't care, you don't count". When I checked this pge I was looking into the game's source code to understand better how things worked, and sorting through thousands of recently extracted images. But okay, that doens't count. Apparently I haven't done any editing, despite Recentchanges being full of them.
- I'll reiterate again. I am opposed to the merger, and I don't see how this can go through if you were honest about the statement that both communities needed to agree to it. Besides, from what I see from both wikis, the content on Gamepedia's is better and it does better in SEO, so it would be a better base to build from. Not the other way around. On activity, there are now two active editors here (one anonymous with loads of content edits, plus me), while I'm not seeing much on wikia. But I guess that is irrelevant too? What is the point of a voting process and lots of posturing if ultimately it doesn't matter? Pangaearocks (talk) 23:16, 20 April 2020 (UTC)
- Very well then. We've decided to hold off on merging these two communities at this time, to see if your work on the wiki here attracts a community. We'll see how your joining this wiki weeks after the notice was posted affects how well it does. We will not be extending it as precedent elsewhere, however. - I'm also opposed to a merger. In my experience, the Fandom platform performs worse than Gamepedia, is much less user-friendly than Gamepedia, and is more difficult to edit than Gamepedia. I'd rather keep improving this wiki than edit on the Fandom wiki. The only way I'd support a merger is if the Fandom wiki was closed and its users and editors were directed here to Gamepedia. - When I started editing here, I actually looked at both wikis and this one already had more content than the fandom one. A lot of the fandom content is also actually not from the game itself, but taken from the pathfinder tabletop sources which confused me as I knew nothing about pathfinder outside of this game. Gamepedia was also easier to edit for a newbie like myself, who is learning on the go. I do not see any reason to support fandom over this one. Finito9 (talk)
