Riverbed Nightmare is a quest in Pathfinder: Kingmaker.

Journal

What are these horrible dreams that plague our leader each night? What terrible malefaction occurred on the shores of the Shrike River? And has my book suddenly turned from a heroic epic into a horror story?
Find the cause of the nightmares and the way to stop them +54xp Objective_FindNettle (d7953fe5a1a778b4db93f4b45f18a59d)
Our leader can't get any rest at night lately — and it's not due to bedbugs in {his/her} bedroll! As soon as {he/she} closes {his/her} eyes, a nightmare begins tormenting {him/her} — a bloated, drowned corpse repeating the same words over and over: "Shrike River." We should go there and discover the source of these terrible dreams!
  • We killed Nettle again... But will that do any good against someone who's already come back from the dead to get his vengeance? I'm afraid not.

Kill the Stag Lord, then speak with Nettle +300xp Objective_KillSL (fff18767adc1149409df451b3d8ddc0b)
So, the one sending us those nightmares was Davik Nettle — formerly a ferryman, now a creepy corpse eager to get revenge upon the Stag Lord. But that's why we came in the first place — to end the bandit's atrocities! So there was no need to spook us with bad dreams! Well, at least now we won't just be pacifying the region — we're also helping a poor soul find rest.

When the Stag Lord's blood spilled on the ground he'd defiled, we weren't the only ones to sigh with relief. We vindicated many innocent lives that accursed bandit had extinguished before we arrived. Alas, we know only one of his victims' names. Rest in peace, Davik Nettle!

Walkthrough

  • (re-test) 10 days after beginning of the game if you rest you will get Book Event (Riverbed Nightmare) which will reveal Nettle's Crossing and your main character won't be able to benefit from resting as long as nightmares reappear.
    • Nettle's Crossing applies an aura in 30 "global map units range" that probably triggers Book Event (Riverbed Nightmare).
  • To avoid that, you should go to Nettle's Crossing and talk to Davik Nettle whose immortal corpse you could find by the river.
    • You will be able to able to [Attack] him with (Chaotic Neutral), (Lawful Evil) and non-aligned options, but that won't resolve the problem and supposedly only delay the nightmares.
    • Agreeing to kill Stag Lord for him is the best solution, because that would stop the nightmares, and you are going to kill him for Stolen Land anyway.
  • If you decided to help him, visit him after killing Stag Lord and you will get Shortspear +1 and Research into the Nature of Curses: Davik Nettle.
  • If you decided to ignore his requests, after Stag Lord is defeated you will get an extra option in Book Event (Riverbed Nightmare), which will fail the quest, but stop the nightmares.

Aftermath

Regardless of quest resolution, you should still be able to meet Davik Nettle in Nettle's Crossing and receive Research into the Nature of Curses: Davik Nettle.
