Along the Cold Trail is a quest in Pathfinder: Kingmaker.

It's hard searching for missing people in these inhospitable lands – you're just as likely to end up lost yourself. We should ask for help, but from whom?

A tribe of Kellid barbarians from Numeria have set up camp in the hills. What are they doing here? We should pay them a visit and find out what they know about the fate of Varnhold. They aren't known for their peaceful nature, so we'll just have to test our luck with them.

We met a strange woman at the barbarian camp – something of a mix between a priestess, a witch, and a sorceress... Or maybe she's simply an impostor? Whatever she is, she says her three sisters went out to search for who-knows-what, and never returned. She hinted vaguely that if we were able to find them, she'd aid us in our search. It's a faint trail, but it's better than nothing!
  • One of the Sisters went to look for the Forsaken Mound.

We found all three of the missing Sisters, but – surprise! – they didn't tell us anything useful. We should return to camp and talk to the Sister who asked us to look for them. She can't keep giving us vague hints forever! … Can she?

That was unexpected. Rather than more of the Sister's vagueries, what we got was a fight. This trail has reached its end... Maybe the barbarian leader will have some clue where to look next.
So, the Valley of the Dead. A place where even battle-hardened barbarians dare not tread. The place those creepy Sisters were looking for. That's where we'll find the answers we seek. For gods' sake, why do we always end up in places like that? Why can't we ever find adventures in the Chocolate Fields, or the Forest of Fuzzy Unicorns?

  • This quest goes completely hand in hand with "Find the relic that the Defaced Sisters are looking for" objective of The Lost Relic quest.

Talk to the Numerian barbarians[ | ]

  • Unknown trigger conditions

Find the missing Defaced Sisters[ | ]

  • Talking to Defaced Sister (Kellid Barbarian Camp) in Kellid Barbarian Camp.
  • For this quest you need to find three lost sisters in Forsaken Mound, City of Hollow Eyes and Sepulcher of Forgotten Heroes.
  • The sister in Forsaken Mound is already dead, simply complete the associated Book Event (Forsaken Mound).
  • In City of Hollow Eyes
    • First you will encounter an aasimar barbarian Hilla who will ask you to find the missing sister and the team that have gone with her.
    • The Defaced Sister (City of Hollow Eyes) can be found in the tomb at the northwest part of the location. You can either let her go to the camp or kill her there.
    • Approach Hilla to report on the news. If you spared the sister then you get 1220Coin, +225xp and barbarians will leave to the main camp.
    • If you killed the sister you have the following options:
      1. Bluff DC 30 check +720xp, barbarians will go away and you get your reward: 1220Coin and +225xp.
      2. "Your people were killed by cyclopes. As for the Sister — I killed her."
      3. (Chaotic Evil) [Attack]
    • If you have told her that you have killed the sister or failed the [Bluff] check then you get:
      1. Diplomacy DC 28 check +360xp (DC 33 and +1920xp if failed [Bluff] check), barbarians will go away and you get +225xp.
        • Failed [Diplomacy] check leads to combat.
      2. "Calm down. It was on Dugath's orders."
        • After that you can let them go +225xp, or [Attack] without alignment shift.
      3. (Chaotic Evil) [Attack]
    • Killing Hilla's group gives up to +370xp.
  • In Sepulcher of Forgotten Heroes
    • You will first meet Brag whom you can heal +45xp or let him die.
    • The location is a maze with pressure plates that open and close the doors.
    • Generally you have to explore whatever rooms are available to you at the moment, find the pressure plate, use it and keep exploring again until you find one more pressure plate. But.
    • The first dead end moment will require you to leave one party member locked behind at the Yellow pressure plate while the rest of the party explores newly opened rooms. New paths will be open later and that party member will be able to join the team.
    • Second roadblock will be with two pressure plates in the far west and northwest rooms - they open the associated gates only for a short time period, forcing you to split your team once again.
    • The final room will have a multi-color pressure plate that will open all gates.
    • In the end you will meet Defaced Sister (Sepulcher of Forgotten Heroes). You can kill her, let her go to the camp +960xp, or make her go away with [Requires Good] choice +56xp. If Amiri is in the party, she will kill the Defaced Sister unless you stop her during dialogue.

Return to the barbarians' main camp[ | ]

  • Once three sisters have been found, return to Kellid Barbarian Camp.
  • Defaced Sister (Kellid Barbarian Camp) will accuse you of murder and lies (regardless of what you have done before) and reveal your name to the Raven.
    • If you have not earned Dugath's favor and let at least one of the defaced sisters to come back to camp you will have to fight everyone.
    • If you have earned Dugath's favor and neither of the sisters returned to the camp you get to fight only half of the barbarians.
    • If neither of two above criteria are met you will have to do persuade Dugath to stay out of combat or attack everyone.
      1. Bluff DC 26 check +240xp if you had killed any defaced sister before
      2. Diplomacy DC 25 check +180xp if you haven't killed defaced sisters
      3. Hidden Lore (Religion) DC 25 check option
      4. [Requires Neutral] option

Speak with Dugath[ | ]

  • After the combat talk to Dugath, he will point you towards Gates to the Valley of the Dead, it continues in The Lost Relic quest.
    • If you fought with everyone he dies afterwards.
    • If you fought only half of the barbarians you can attack Dugath and the remaining barbarians or let them go +480xp.
